Born 1934 - English composer.
Began career as a clarinettist. Formed the New Manchester Group for performance of modern music. First composition Refrains and Choruses was written in 1957. Formed the Pierrot Players, much of is work was written for them and the English Opera Group. Knighted in 1988, created Companion of Honour in 2000.
