Born 1913. Died 1999 - English biochemist.
He achieved a first in Chemistry at Oxford, and went on to be part of the research team, led by Professor Howard Florey, responsible for the development of penicillin. He was elected to the fellowship of the Royal Society in 1958. He was awarded a CBE in 1973 and knighted in 1980.
