Tuesday 21st July 2009 Cows to graze Leigh Woods again
Work is taking place to allow cattle to return to their ancient grazing grounds in Leigh Woods, North Somerset. Holding pens are being built ahead of the arrival of six cows in September. Head warden of the National Trust at Leigh Woods, Bill Morris explained that the fencing was to keep the cattle in, not to exclude public access.
Six Red Devon cows will be allowed free run of 30 hectares of woodland. Leigh Woods were saved from development when they were bequeathed to the national Trust by the Bristol tobacco baron George Wills. Somerset
