Kinloch Rannoch is a small remote village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, 20 miles west of Pitlochry and 20 miles north-west of Aberfeldy. It is situated at the east end of Loch Rannoch. The road heading west comes to a dead end at Rannoch station on the edge of the vast expanse of Rannoch Moor and over to the hills above Glencoe. To the south are Rannoch Forrest and the Blackwood of Rannoch. The whole area is tranquil and picturesque with spectacular views of Schiehallion to the north. The village is steeped in history and was already an established settlement by the arrival of missionary St Blane c500AD. Kinloch Rannoch was a central base during the Jacobite uprising, the soldiers were based at Rannoch Barracks and the area suffered badly as a result. The village has two churches and offers a range of services, amenities and shops. An obelisk stands in the centre of the village commemorating Dugald Buchanan a Gaelic poet. To the east the Hydro-electric Reservoir sits between Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel. Kinloch Rannoch is a popular tourist resort ideal for fishing, walking and a variety of outdoor pursuits, there various holiday accommodation including two large hotels.
