The tiny village of Stoke Doyle lies just two miles south west of the historic market town of Oundle, close to the A605. Visitors to this quaint village can enjoy the local pub, The Shuckburgh Arms and also gain easy access to the many attractions in the surrounding area. Nearby Oundle is a beautiful and historic town. The Talbot Inn was constructed from the ruins of Fotheringay Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded. Oundle itself has many other historic buildings worthy of a visit, including St Peter's Church, which has the largest steeple in the area. Other attractions not far from Stoke Doyle include the magnificent Elton Hall. Elton Hall compromises a breathtakingly romantic mix of architectural styles, including Gothic. The Gardens are well worth a visit and there is a garden centre and restaurant. If you fancy travelling just a few miles further, you can visit the historic cathedral city of Peterborough. The splendid cathedral at Peterborough is well worth a visit. It was originally founded as a monastery in 655AD, and now boasts a magnificent West Front, built between 1118 and 1238. Peterborough hosts many other fine buildings of interest and is only a short drive along the A605 from Stoke Doyle.
