Dittisham is an enchanting village in Devon dating back to Saxon times, set at the widest point of the River Dart, and home to four hundred people. There are fabulous boat trips, and fishing on offer, add the 14th Century church of St George and thatched cottages, makes an appealing destination. History is shared at the 15th Century ruin of Berry Pomeroy Castle positioned in a steep wooded valley, veiled by myths and legends, or how about the Motte and Bailey Castle dating back to Norman times at Totnes Castle. Or for evocative thoughts of times long past Dartmouth Castle conjures a magical scene as it looks out ever watchful over the River Dart, built in 1388 set against a luscious green back drop is one visit never forgotten. If a trip to a Museum is wished for then Brixham Heritage Museum will grant it, with fascinating exhibits including an interesting Maritime Gallery, and even medical equipment of the cringing kind. Or perhaps the thousands of buildings captured in miniature at Babbacombe Model Village is more your thing‡” Or share the elegant age of steam travel which is relived at Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway, Locomotives journey for seven miles rewarding passengers with unforgettable views.
