Easington

The District has plenty to discover on foot, whether for the family rambler or the experienced long distance walker. Along the coast, the Durham Coastal Footpath is an 11 mile (18km) waymarked route from Seaham to Crimdon. For an illustrated guide to the route, please contact the Tourism Unit at District of Easington. The unit also supplies a series of leaflets, each describing a walk around one of the district's settlements. Another enjoyable walk can be taken through the National Nature Reserve at Castle Eden Dene, the largest of Durham's wooded coastal ravines. There is an education office which offers a service for organised groups. For further information contact Oakerside Dene Lodge. Health For All organises a 'Get Active Get Walking' scheme in the district. For further information contact Health For All on (0191) 5269199. A programme of Countryside Events is organised by the County Council's Ranger Service. For details of guided walks/events please contact: Sites and Rangers Section, Environment, Durham County Council County Hall Durham Tel: (0191) 3834144
