The Shell Grotto is one of the world1s most mysterious places: a series of underground rooms and passageways covered by 2000sqft of exquisite shell mosaic. Discovered in 1835, nobody knows who created it, although many believe it is a 2000-year-old temple. The Mystery Museum encourages visitors to draw their own conclusions.

Also on site is a large shop, offering a wide range of gifts, and the Eighth Wonder Café, serving hot and cold drinks, snacks and cakes.

Adults say: Awe-inspiring... a truly major national site. Time Out Children say: It1s brilliant. I want to live here, Tom, aged 8
