The only museum on mainland Britain solely devoted to dinosaurs, the award-winning Dinosaur Museum is a treat, especially for children. The museum combines fossils and skeletons with life-sized reconstructions of dinosaurs and hands-on displays. Multimedia displays tell the story of the giant prehistoric animals and their enthralling world many millions of years ago.
The Dinosaur Museum has twice been voted one of Britain’s Top Ten Hands On Museums. It has been featured on national television including such programmes as Blue Peter, The Tweenies, and Tickabilla.
‘Fleshed-out’ dinosaur reconstructions - including Tyrannosaurus rex, Stegosaurus, and Triceratops - beg to be touched by little hands – and that's encouraged. Other reconstructions include the ‘sickle claw’ Deinonychus, two feathered troodons, and a pterosaur. The Dinosaur Museum is situated in Dorchester gateway to the Jurassic Coast. Its individual approach has made it extremely popular with visitors.
