Mined for iron over 2,500 years, the Caves represent a unique survival of an ancient Forest of Dean tradition of Free Mining, still producing pigments for natural paints.

Nine impressive caverns open to the public, with displays throughout. There is a tempting tearoom and Cave shop which stocks minerals, books and gifts, including pigments from the mine.

Educational and fun - a great underground experience for all the family! Also Christmas Fantasy - the caverns are transformed into a wonderland where children meet Father Christmas and follow the story of the Very Hungry Polar Bear.
