19th of April - Primrose Day

19th of April is the 109th day of the year

Primrose Day:
Those who celebrate Primrose Day in our times are few and far between, but membership of The Primrose League, whose commemorative day it was, at one time was far in excess of the numbers the unions could muster. The Primrose League was founded in 1883 to honour Benjamin Disraeli, who had died two years before, and to promote Tory principles, most notably free enterprise. April 19th was chosen as that was the date of Disraeli’s death, and the primrose motif came from that being his favourite flower, although some people dispute that last claim. Whatever the truth, the flower was a useful badge for the society’s adherents, worn on April 19th. The Primrose League was disbanded in 2004.
