Carlton Park was a comfortable launching point for my ten-day visit to the area. Staff was helpful, my room was very comfortably appointed, the morning breakfast buffet was very good, and the in-house bar and meals were all good. The Moorgate location is convenient to Rotherham General Hospital and a short walk to Boston Park. It's also a quick drive to Whiston for very good pubs The Whiston Arms and the Golden Ball--and into central Rotherham.
Two detractors: 1. as a non-smoker it was very hard to get away from cigarette smoke both in the public areas and in our room; the office staff used a stairwell near our room to smoke. I had to air my clothes out after my visit. 2. Social events at the hotel sometimes include loud discos; the bass and percussion reverberated into our first floor room--not ideal if you're really trying to get some rest. I had to go down to the office late one evening to request that the volume be turned down--a bit of a pain on the night before I was leaving on an trans-Atlantic flight.
