We were looking forward to our stay at the Grosvenor hotel as it was reputed to be one of the finest hotels in London. We arrived and the staff were extremely helpful and we were checked in within minutes. The reception and Libary area were tidy and well decorated. Our room was an excellent size for central london, however that was the last positive thing that could be said the word faded glory comes to mind, the carpets were worn the furniture had seen better days and the paintwork was extremely tatty. The en suite was small and shabby with telephone wires hanging from the wall and a bath tap that you could not vary the water temperature with. Our evening meal was in the great room part of a summer ball and was excellent in every way. Breakfast was adequate although did not match the standard set from the night before and I have had better, the bacon was fatty, and the eggs cold. The meat and cheese was left un refrigeratated and had started to turn. all this at a "special rate of £199 plus tax" of and a cup of tea was £10.00 and a club sandwich £25. In fairness the hotel is under going refurbishment but take my advice and wait until the refurbishment work is done as only this will justify the cost
