I am glad it didn’t spoil your evening. I have taken note of your thoughts on the tables and lighting but cannot promise any changes in the near future though I’m afraid. Best wishes Shaun Hill The Walnut Tree Restaurant, Llanddewi Skirrid, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire NP7 8AW T: 01873 852797 F: 01873 859764 From: Jennifer Black [mailto:jennifer.black@elpower.com] Sent: 01 September 2009 17:48 To: mail@thewalnuttreeinn.com Subject: Comments Hello Walnut Tree Hi. My partner and I came for supper at the Walnut House on Saturday evening. Let me start with the most important thing; the food was absolutely delicious. Fantastic. Thank you very much for feeding us so well. So, with that in mind, and knowing that we really had a splendid meal, can I make a few suggestions? 1. The lighting in the restaurant area isn’t very nice. The overhead lights strip the room of any atmosphere. I would have thought that softer lighting/or god forbid, candles, would soften the area and make the experience more intimate? Particularly as the tables are quite close together. 2. Speaking of the tables, they are, sorry, a bit grim. Might you be able to put tablecloths on them, though, that would take away the relaxed atmosphere. Anyway, something to think about. 3. The service, on the whole, was excellent. However, I’m a bit fussy (can you tell?) and don’t eat your average roll. I did ask the lovely lady whether you had any sourdough or rye bread, but did not receive an answer at all. All night. I know it’s awkward of my not to eat normal bread, but, I did go to the trouble of asking and therefore would have appreciated a response. Even to be told, no. I also order a jug of water at least 4 times before it arrived. We had a glass of Kir Royale in the bar area, and ordered a bottle of red to have with the main course, but 2 glasses of white to try with the starter. Our wine had still not arrived after we’d finished the starter! I did mention this to one of the staff who kindly brought the wine anyway. 4. I might also add that I did try to give some of this feedback to one of your more senior members of staff, who was very put out by the idea that someone might have some suggestions on how to improve the experience. She certainly wasn’t rude at all, though she did make me feel pretty stupid for offering some advice. As I said initially, on the whole we had a super night and thoroughly enjoyed the food. But, we could have enjoyed the experience more. Thanks Jenn

Although it is true to say that the restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere,we were somewhat surprised to find the loos were outside the main building.I (Jan) had always heard good things about this restaurant and I was very satisfied with the food, even though a vegetarian appetiser was unavailable for me.The meals were good ,even though my partner feels that a fillet of steak would have been a preferred option than the sirlion served. The wine,at £15 a bottle was less than satisfactory .We usually find a reasonable one can be purchased for that price! In all ,good food ,but with the lack of competition locally for similiar food, it was over priced by 15%-20% .This is a shame as the overpricing will deter us from revisiting this restaurant.
