Bridestowe, Devon

Review of Bridestowe by joan barnett nee harris on February 28th, 2009
I lived in Bridestowe 1943 -1946 and went to school in Okehampton on the bus daily. I remember the US infantry division being there and wonder what unit it was , based there 1943- to April 1944 I also remember seeing Bob Hope and Francis Langford in the village hall entertaining the troops, we village children were allowed in and sat on the floor in front of the stage. I remember the long walk to Bridestowe station and as we had to pass the US camp entrance we had to show our identity cards enroute.
