Born 1920. Died 1998 - English writer and broadcaster.

Served in the RAF during WWII. Began professional partnership with Dennis Norden with 1947 until 1964. Wrote radio comedy series Take If From Here (1947-58) and Whack-O! (1958-60). Appeared on game show Call My Bluff. Published Oxford Book of Humorous Prose (1989), took 17 years to compile and edit.
