BOOK PORTSMOUTH HOTELS

Christopher Hitchens
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire
Born on 13rd of April 1949
Died on 15th of December 2011
British hero of the week December 20th 2011

Christopher Hitchens was a rare and wonderful thing, a brilliant thinker and speaker who espoused a central set of values, and remained true to them rather than defending a particular political cause or party – he despised for example Bill Clinton, but when he felt Clinton had been wronged, stood up for him. The values he defended were, in very broad terms antitheism (rather than atheism), pluralism, and anti-fascism, his view of the world essentially Marxist. He was a sparkling writer as journalist, essayist and author, and became a regular talk show guest guaranteed to spark debate.

I like the ephemeral thing about theatre, every performance is like a ghost - it's there and then it's gone - Maggie Smith
