After his schooling at (the then independent) QEGS in Blackburn Guru-Murthy studied PPE at Hertford College, Oxford, already during his undergraduate years presenting several BBC programmes. Stints with Newsround, Newsnight, BBC News 24, and even on the National Lottery Live Show followed before in 1998 he joined the station with which he is most readily associated, Channel 4, where he has presented the midday and evening news programmes, and made occasional special reports.
