Debut in West End in Candida (1976). Won Laurence Olivier award in See How They Run (1984). Had success as Joyce Grenfell in her one-woman show. Films include Up the Junction (1967), Educating Rita (1983) and Carry on Columbus (1992). Television work includes the comedy series Agony. Won BAFTA advertising award for Beattie in the British Telecom commercials.
