After earning a degree in political science at the University of the West of England Hart trained in dramatic arts, and appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe. She acted in numerous small roles before finding fame in her sitcom Miranda, and as a central character in the BBC drama series Call the Midwife. Her brand of humour is often physical, veering to the comedy of embarrassment, and can seem old-fashioned, loved by some, loathed by others. Coming from a well-connected and rather aristocratic background her plumy tones are unaffected.
