Arthur English (comedy actor) was not a born Cockney, despite the excellent accent. He was born & lived in Aldershot in 1919 and, after doing some local shows in his spare time away from a building site, he took the plunge into professionalism. Stared in numerous TV sitcomes including "Are you being served". Several films and stage shows to his credit. Died 1995.
