BOOK FARNDON HOTELS

John Speed
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Farndon, Cheshire
Born in 1542
Died in 1629

Speed, like his father before him, worked as a tailor, though he developed early in his life a love of history. Sir Fulke Greville provided funds that allowed Speed to devote himself fully to historical research. He published in 1611 A History of Great Britain, and just before that, and far more significantly, his 54 Maps of England and Wales. He also published the first world atlas put together by an English subject.
