One of the finest Shakespearean actors of his generation, Pennington has worked with the Royal Court theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and The National Theatre, and with Michael Bogdanov formed the English Shakespeare Company in 1986. He has appeared in a few television productions, and a handful of films, and has written widely on stagecraft and dramatists.
