BOOK KENNINGTON HOTELS

Edith Nesbit
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Kennington, London
Born on 15th of August 1858
Died on 4th of May 1924

E. Nesbit, the name under which she wrote, was co-founder of the Fabian Society, but it is as the author of children’s classics like The Railway children and Five Children and It that she will be remembered. Her home life with her first husband was to say the least complicated thanks to his frequent infidelities, Edith adopting two of his illegitimate offspring. Her books for children tell stories of real-world situations, something that has led to her being described at the first modern writer for children.

If I had been around when Rubens was painting, I would have been revered as a fabulous model. Kate Moss? Well, she would have been the paintbrush. - Dawn French
