Edward Mellanby
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Hartlepool, Cleveland and Teesside
Born on 8th of April 1884
Died on 30th of January 1955

Mellanby studied physiology at Cambridge, before undertaking medical training in London, qualifying in 1913. His research showed that rickets apparently had a dietary cause (only in fact partially correct). Mellanby campaigned for public health improvements through better dietary and nutritional research and information. He was Secretary to the Medical Research council for 16 years, and advised the government on nutrition during WWII.

Brit Quote:
Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals - George Orwell
