Born 1936 - English actress and Labour politician.
Student at RADA. Made theatrical debut in Separate Tables (1957). Film debut in Sporting Life (1963) but remained primarily a stage actress. Films included Women in Love, won an Academy Award, A Touch of Class and Sunday, Bloody Sunday. Turned to a career in politics, elected as Labour MP for Hampstead & Highgate in 1992.
