BOOK BIRKENHEAD HOTELS

John McGrath
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Birkenhead, Merseyside
Born on 1st of June 1935
Died on 22nd of January 2002

John McGrath was a significant figure in the development of television in this country, writing and directing much of Z Cars in its first flush of youth, bringing political and social depth to what the BBC almost certainly only intended to be a simple cops and robbers show. He formed the left-wing theatre company 7:84 to take theatrical productions to those normally excluded geographically and/or economically from such fare, and wrote left-wing plays, the most famous The Cheviot, The Stage, And The Black, Black Oil, though rather more of us will have seen the movie Billion Dollar Brain, which he scripted.
