Jones was one of the earliest British pop artists whose works in the 1960s reflected much of the rebellion of that decade, and its obsession with sex. His works that build the often fetishised female form into furniture and sculptures have frequently caused controversy, with even the normally liberal Guardian at one point suggesting they should not be shown. He became a Royal Academician in 1986.
