John Hughlings Jackson was a significant figure in the development of his field, neurology. He is most associated with the diagnosis of epilepsy, and the study of that illness across its complex range, and as having identified that specific areas of the brain are linked to some movements in the arms and legs. A co-founder of the journal Brain, Jackson was a much sought-after lecturer to learned medical bodies in his time.
