Born 1599. Died 1680 - English statesman.

Entered Parliament in 1624. Was one of the five members whom Charles I tried to arrest in 1642. Adovated peace during the Civil War and was accused of treason in 1647 for proposing to disband the army, fled to Normandy. Speaker of the commission in 1660 delegated to recall Charles II to England. Created Baron Holles of Ifield in 1661.
