Son of the 11th Earl of Pembroke. Educated at Oriel College, Oxford. Elected Conservative MP for South Wiltshire in 1832. Held a number of posts including Secretary to the Admiralty, Colonial Secretary and Secretary-at-War. Made improvements in the sanitary conditions of the army and the education of the forces.
