Born 1677. Died 1761 - Botanist and chemist.

Studied at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Became perpetual curate of Teddington in 1709. Elected FRS in 1718. Best known for his Statical Essays which include accounts of experiments of plant physiology and the circulation of blood and blood pressure. Was a pioneer of experimental physiology. Studied stones taken from the bladder and kidneys and invented surgical forceps.
