Born 1804. Died 1881 - Ornithologist and publisher.

An expert in the art of taxidermy led to him becoming the first Curator and Preserver at the museum of the Zoological Society of London in 1827. Travelled widely studying and drawing birds. Produced 18 books of bird illustrations including Birds of Europe, Birds of Australia, Birds of Asia and Birds of Great Britain. The Gould League, founded in Australia in 1909, was named after him.
