Born 1842. Died 1919 – Liberal Party politician and industrialist.

Founded Brunner Mond & Company in 1873. Built Winnington to produce soda ash and became one of the wealthiest chemical companies in the late nineteenth century. Introduced shorter working hours, sickness and injury insurance, and holidays with pay for his employees. Elected MP for Northwich in 1885, stood until 1910.
