Educated at Balliol College, Oxford. Wrote regularly for the Sunday Times. Was co-founder editor of Horizon. His only novel was The Rock Pool (1936). Also wrote Enemies of Promise (1938) and The Unquiet Grave (1944), both were essays and reflections.
