Made reputation with poem The Shadow of the Night (1594). His play The Blind Beggar of Alexandria was produced in 1595. His translation of The Whole Works of Homer: Prince of Poets appeared in 1611. Completed translation of Odyssey in 1616. Other plays included The Gentlemen Usher (1606), Duke of Byron (1606) and Caesar and Pompey (1631).
