Born 1904 - Guayaquil, Ecuador. Died 1988 - English dancer and choreographer.


He trained in London under Leonide Massine and Marie Rambert, who commissioned his first piece, A Tragedy of Fashion (1926). After a spell in the USA he returned to England and founded the Ballet Club, which later became the Ballet Rambert. He joined the Sadler’s Wells Ballet in 1935 as dancer/choreographer and became director (1936-70). His productions included Façade (1931), Ondine (1958) and The Dream (1964). He was knighted in 1962.
