She joined the BBC Radio in 1969 as a technician, then producer, and moved to television in 1977. A reporter on the BBC’s national news since 1979, she is renowned for reporting from dangerous war-torn areas around the world, and has been chief news correspondent since 1989. Winning numerous wards, she received an OBE in 1993.
