Formby on the coast of Lancashire and part of the West Lancashire Coastal Plain offers the visitor some of the best natural National Trust beaches in the country, visitors are attracted here to appreciate the long sandy beaches, stunning coastline and its reputation as one of the last remaining places in the country that is home to a thriving colony of red squirrels. There is no doubt that Formby has plenty to offer both the resident and visitor. Its centre boasts a wide variety of local stores as well as a number of the national chains that offer a wide variety of products. The town of Formby has never been industrialised and to a certain extent it has benefitted from this absence allowing the town to grow as a tourist resort and residential centre, there are a number of good schools in the area and associated facilities. People are attracted here because of the good quality of life to be enjoyed, the town is close to three major golf courses, football and cricket clubs. Combine this with its proximity to Liverpool and Manchester, its excellent rail service and John Lennon Airport then it becomes easier to understand the appeal of Formby.
