Set inland from Rhyl on the North Wales coast, almost near to the centre of the Vale of Clwyd you will find Denbigh or if you prefer, the Welsh name, Dinbych. A market town that is set high on a hill and over which Denbigh Castle still stands guard today. The Castle was part of King Edward I “Ring of Castles” in North Wales built to subdue the Welsh in the late 13th century. The castle provides an interesting insight into life at that time, it may be in ruins, having been almost destroyed in the War of the Roses, but today from its prominent location it offers splendid views out across the Vale of Clwyd and the Clwydian Range. Denbigh was recorded in the 11th century as being a small border town it grew to be one of the more important and prosperous market towns in Wales which is little changed today. The town centre sits atop a particularly steep hill and this is where the main shops are to be found and if you continue on up the hill along the narrow and winding lane you will find yourself approaching the Castle. Today Denbigh is more than a market town, it is attracting new people to the area who appreciate the location and ease of communication to the major towns and cities of the North West – Chester is around 40 minutes away. Denbigh still holds a Peoples Market every month, there is the Midsummer Festival, its Beer Festival and the Denbigh and Flint Annual Show.
