| 10 Places to Stay

Kingswood is a residential district on the outskirts of Dublin, approximately nine miles south-west of the city centre. Visitors like the area as a base for exploring all the history, arts, culture, architecture, entertainment and nightlife for which Dublin is world- famous, and for touring the surrounding countryside. Kingswood has its own convenient shopping centre, and the local Tynan Park has several points of interest. Named after the poet Katharine Tynan who once lived in a house beside the park, it contains the remains of the 17th Century Kingswood Castle, burned down in the mid-1600s by Irish revolutionaries little more than twenty years after the building was completed. Also in the park is a mound capped with a stone ruin - not a motte and bailey castle, as is often thought, but a wedding venue, never completely finished. Kingswood is located between the busy suburbs of Clondalkin and Tallaght, in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. Tallaght is great for shopping, cinema and socialising, while Clondalkin offers fabulous coarse and trout fishing in the angling lakes in Corkagh Demesne Park, a beautiful expanse of changing rural landscapes and sports facilities. Clondalkin also boasts the scenic Grange Castle golf club. Another excellent course, at Newlands Golf Club, is also close.
