Bampton is located in Mid Devon near the border with Somerset and on the edge of Exmoor National Park. The centre of the village is a complete conservation area with an abundance of Listed buildings. Bampton has won the national Britain in Bloom competition 6 times, the most recent in the Millennium year and has been awarded 5 RHS Gold Medals from South West in Bloom during the last 6 years. With shops, pubs, restaurants and places to stay, Bampton has much to offer apart from its floral displays. Though parts of St Michael’s and All Angels church date from the early 12th Century during the Norman occupation, few buildings in Bampton pre-date 1645. During the Civil War, the Parliamentarian and Royalist armies clashed in Bampton and much was burned. Bampton has many fine places to eat, drink and stay, several of which serve locally produced food. About 4 miles East of Bampton is the Waterrow Touring Park, a 12 acre landscaped park with facilities for campers and caravaners including heated amenities block, laundry room, freezer, payphone and day kennels for dogs. Open all year, the Park aims to provide a quiet and relaxing way of life for adults only.
