The village of Hambledon lies is to be found in Hampshire and there has been a settlement here since before Roman Times whilst the first recorded mention of Hambledon is accredited to King Edgar in 956. A stroll through the streets of Hambledon is an interesting exercise, each of the cottages a little different from each other, but only limited architecture is available from before the 18th century. It was in the 18th century that two serious fires struck the village one destroying most of the east side of the High Street whilst the other destroyed part of the church. Today though this village and its surroundings are very much protected by the Green Belt, the National Trust and a Parish Council that ensure the character of the village remains. Today, as always at the top of High Street is the village church of St Peter and St Paul, dating back to the 11th century in part, whilst the High Street itself contains many interesting timber framed buildings. Finally if you are visiting Hambledon then you must ensure that you pick up a bottle or two of the local wine at the Peoples Market which is made here in Hambledon.
