Britain has always been a maritime nation with the sea and our rivers forming an integral part of the development of the nation. The industrialisation of Britain brought with it an amazing canal network which is now gradually being restored. Day trips, cruises and holidays on the canals are a simply delightful way to explore Britain. The canals often allow us to see the UK from a perspective that is otherwise hidden from view. Narrowboats are the most popular method for navigating canals as their narrow beam matches the narrowest width of canals and locks. If you prefer the more wide open spaces then the Norfolk Broads are an obvious choice. The Broads are a network of flooded peat excavations in East Anglia. They are a haven for wildlife and as such make an ideal location for a bit of rest and relaxation. If you are looking for a little more zest in your boating then why not try out a speedboat. Many lakes in Britain allow speedboat access and boats can even be hired if you prefer self ‘drive’. Our rivers are a great place to take a boat trip, with a host of options available from trip on old steam powered boats to taking a punt along the River Cam. Offshore boating also offers a wide range of choices from cruising on a motor launch to yachting. You really are spoiled for choice when it comes to messing around on boats in or around the UK.
