Nice location, friendly staff, good food. Duvet on beds rather than bed sheets. The Hotel was advertised as being in Southend on Sea when it is infact in Westcliff on Sea, about a 20-30 minute walk from the Southend on Sea centre.

The facility to access the Internet in the bar free of charge,"Eating in the bar area was not a pleasant experience (smoky, v.basic facilities)","The restaurant only offered a fixed menu (4 course meal at £27.50) so the alternative was to eat in the bar. The food was good but the room was not - small, smoky... Staff were friendly and helpful (I ordered a newspaper when I checked in but, apparently, no note had been left for the morning staff to purchase it - the young lady on reception/waitress went out to get one for me and another guest, which was good)."
