The food was varied and not as described. Field mushrooms on Ciabatta were served as button mushrooms. Two of us had the Hake special at £14.95 each but the portions were so small, overcooked and flavourless. The vegetables were too undercooked, plates were cold and food luke warm. Overall old fashioned pub but with all the bad traits of old fashioned menus. Sure the battered cod and the pork ribs may be OK but this establishment needs to up its game to stay in the market to compete with local places like The Oyster Shack. It needs to move on in the quality of food and service. The young girl tried hard but did not know what to call the dishes she was putting down. Despite us being told to come later it was not very busy and we got the impression this was more for ease of chef and staff than popularity of the restaurant. When we told the staff we were not happy with food we had a sort of apology and a promise to tel the chef, but felt this was paying lip service as when it came to pay the bill there was no mention of it, discount or apology. It is all very well thinking well they are on holiday and will not come again but we will tell our friends who come to Devon too!
