have just read the first 3 reviews about this restaurant and wished that i had read them before our visit, yesterday evening,22/11/2010,we had already spent 2 great days chilling out in the area out and looking forward to our evening meal. It was our silver wedding and wanted to celebrate with a nice meal. My wife chose the pot of beef which she described as very nice. i chose the spicy bolognese served with a cheese topping. the speed of service surprised me and i soon found out why. the dish was cold even though the waitress warned me that . the plate was hot,the food itself was cold. The cheese topping was more like an icecap. part of the dish was actually warm, suggesting some mis-use of a microwave. when i mentioned this to the waitress she was very off hand and took it away. She then asked if i would like something else. My wife by this time was half way through her meal and was not prepared for her to finish and then for her to wait for me.We had gone out together. My wife told the staff that they had ruined our special night but this fell on deaf ears with only a muttered apology

I can honestly say I have never had the misfortune of entering a restaurant with such appalling rude staff (one in particular). Apart from anything else when we went in it looked like a pub so we thought we would go in and have a drink and a quick snack, so we sat down ordered our drinks and had a look at the menu. A quick snack in the form of a jacket potato with beans was going to cost £7.50! In the end we decided there was nothing that we really liked and that we would just pay for our drinks and leave. When we explained that we would just like to pay for drinks and had changed our minds about the food, the waitress practically had a tantrum saying we couldn't come in and just have a drink. Had there been a queue for tables I could understand her point but as they were practically empty they had just made over £6.00 on a few glasses of coke for 10 minutes work! I would never step foot in that place again even if I was starving and I suggest others don't either.

There must be great places to eat in Bowness, but the Sutherlands Restaurant is most definitely not one of them. The room was cold, my starter of pate included badly micro-waved pita bread, (if you really have to micro-wave pita bread, please don't turn it to cardboard), and a red blob of what I suppose was intending to be chutney, but tasted like marmalade. And a soggy side salad. Quite a lot of soggy side salad, actually, which was also the feature of my main course; scampi, chips and peas. For a reason only known to the chef, the above main course was served on a bed of salad, which meant the frozen chips, peas and scampi were, er, soggy. I ate half of this, got the bill, (which included £7.70 for 2 bottles of Becks), and left. Avoid like the plague.

Just returned from a lovely weekend in the Lakes which was only spoilt by the appalling food served at this restuarant. I ordered a sirloin steak with new potatoes and vegatables. When the steak arrived it looked reasonable and it was of a decent size. However when I tasted the steak I could have been sick. All I can say is that it was OFF!! No wonder the waitress kept asking if I wanted a sauce!! I complained to the waitress who took the steak away and came back saying "the manager has tasted it and tastes ok to him, it was fresh in this morning"!! Fresh from where? The potatoes were also rock hard! When the bill arrived I was told that I didn't have to pay for my wine. My partner complained to the manager stating "it wasn't the wine we left and saying that we wouldn't order food and not eat it" to which the manager rudely replied "of course you wouldn't, snatched the bill out of his hand and rectified it by taking the steak off". Whilst my partner was paying I was looking around at other people eating and got the impression that not many people in there were enjoying their food. There are many restuarants in Bowness, I would definitely avoid this one!!
