We booked this motel on line. Upon arrival at the Stoke train station, we began what we believed would be a short walk to the "nearby" motel. We noted the street and, because the customary number of the building wasn't provided, we presumed it to be a short street as is the case with some British addresses. Our walk turned into an over-a-mile-long-in-a-very-unfamiliar-area with three pieces of heavy luggage. After we checked in, our hearts sank when we found two separate single beds (unspecified on the website)instead of at least a double. Nevertheless, we were determined to soldier on against this insensitivity to a vacationing couple. The TV's remote control, which didn't work, was built into the wall. There was a sign in the room directing no one eat in the room. People in the adjoining pub kept us awake until 3:00 a.m. as did the loudly ticking clock, also built into the wall. When we we woke up, we decided to have breakfast in the restaurant. We were provided mouldy toast, something that tasted like fermented orange juice and (we were told) coffee, all on a grease-stained tablecloth. We decided then and there to find another hotel and, upon checking out, weren't even asked why we were leaving a day early. I don't believe anyone actually stays here since the layer of dust on everything was undisturbed.

We stayed at the plough as a family of 4. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was fantastic especially the sunday carvary in which everything was homemade evevn the baileys cheesecake. The staff were friendly and the management who have only been there 4 weeks were very welcoming. Would recommend to anyone who is staying in the area

Good Points: The room was very clean and not cramped. Bad Points: The room was a little dark as it was in the corner of the block. General Review: The hotel was clean and well decorated, but the outstanding thing about the hotel was the staff. They were very friendly, helpful and lovely people, we felt very welcome there. At one point my mother, unknown to her, left a gold bracelet of great sentimental value in her bed, but this was put in a dish in the room by the maid and my mother was thrilled that it was not lost. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone and if I'm in Stoke again, I'll certainly stay there.

General Review: When we arrived we were given keys but when we opened the room doors the rooms had not been made up. The bar was smokey and there was no where else to sit, thankfully we had booked into the restaurant and this gave us some relief from the smoke. After a very nice meal we went back into the bar to be informed that the children were not allowed in after 9pm and were not allowed to play pool unless they were 14, even though there was no body on the table. Not a lot to do so we went to bed. We were under the impression that children were welcome but obviously this did not appear to be the case. Over all the place was reasonably clean, the room was clean and room facilities were okay. I know we will probably be staying in Stoke again but will probably look for other more child friendly accomodation.
