The Luncarty Inn has changed hands a few times over the last 7 years and unfortunately the present owners are not doing a good job. The tasteful ornaments and pictures have gone and a plasma screen now sits on the wall, this loses the ambiance the restaurant once had. The menu is now decidedly unexciting and the wine list a joke, not that you would be ordering a fine wine to go with the limited down market food choices. The starter was fair, garlic mushrooms in a creamy sauce was ok, and sauce was spooned freshly out of the jar for the prawn cocktail! Main course, - the salmon was a small kind of wedge shaped affair which was very over cooked. To make up for this, the enormous potatoes with skin on, were under cooked. The mussels were ok but the cream sauce they were served in was unbelievably salty. Salt was again in abundance in the pepper sauce that came with my steak, so much so that I actually felt sick after eating half of it. The steak which I ordered rare was medium at best, on the side I started eating it, but by half way through it was well done, not even a hint of pink to be seen. The scampi and chips was ok, obviously straight from the packet with no intervention by “chef”. All in all a disappointing outing – the strange thing is, the place was busier than when they used to serve good food!

Delightful building and ambiance. Met the owners and were made most welcome with per-meal drink. The menu was just right ( not too pretentious ) The mussels were served in a delicious cream sauce with tasty home baked bread. The steak was just mouth-watering perfect and just the right amount. We liked the fact that we were not overpowered with vegetables but just had small amount served with the steak. We proved their flexibility by asking for a mix/match from the sweet menu and this proved to be delicious. Well done Jackie and Tony !!
