This was my second visit to the Horse and Trumpet. On the first time we tried the Taster Menu and were dissappointed by the very small portions and over fussy, pretentious presentation. This time we went a la carte and had a first class meal worthy of a Michelin star. Unfortunately the service was very poor and we had to ask for our starter to be served after waiting over an hour. The staff did not seem at ease and clearly need a lot more experience. A pity as it spoilt what could have been a special evening.

This was our second visit, the first was about four months ago when we thought the food was very good though not cheap, but good restaurants in or around Leicester are few and far between. On this second visit the service was appalling - extremely slow, amateurish, and incompetent. In the end after waiting for about an hour for coffees - ordered to three different people - we gave up and asked for the bill - apologies were grudging and even the bill had to be asked for twice. The food from the kitchen is very good, but the menu is limited (no beef, lamb or pork of any kind; only two vegetables - new potatoes and green beans), and prices are high. Not one to re-visit

This was my 3rd visit to the Horse and Trumpet and we decided to try their Degustation menu which they have on the last Friday of the month. One word STUNNING! The combination of exquisite tastes and presentation that is each and every dish at the Horse and Trumpet is without equal. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
